How To Use Creativity To Improve Your Life

“Are there still original ideas in the world?”

“They beat me to that bright idea; what else can I do?”

“I’ve failed so many times before that I can’t even imagine success.”

These are the thoughts of a person who has given up on creativity. Sadly, a lot of people share this way of thinking. They've never viewed creativity as a useful tool to improve or improvise in life.

When you were born, you were naturally a creative soul, full of wonder & curiosity. This is why children have such a lovely way of looking at the world. As you grew, however, creativity may not have been championed in the same way as “traditional intelligence.” You were taught that math, science, & reason rule the day…that more creative subjects like art & music were what you did when the more important things were complete.

Over time, we become trained to bury our creativity – some of us forgetting it altogether. We shuffle about every day, to & from unfulfilling jobs where we don’t excel. Can you guess why that might be?

It’s because we’re not feeding our passions!

Reawakening Your Creativity

A situation that requires a solution can be approached in a variety of ways. There is no one way fix to a problem. Being creative will open new horizons and offer you opportunities to view life in a more exciting & challenging way.

Think of the Domino effect. One small change – the commitment to living creatively, could be the domino that moves everything in your life in a more abundant direction.

Never hold back a good idea. You are free to interpret different experiences in your own unique way. This process of interpretation, of working to understand your environment, is in & of itself your creativity at work. When you engage in creative thinking, you can easily come up with innovative solutions for any situation that requires a solution.

For instance, your car got stalled on a deserted highway due to a leaky rubber hose on the cooling system. Tough luck! Of course, it had to happen in the most remote place possible.

If you had some chewing gum in your pocket, it just might be a handy fix. You could chew the gum and patch it on the leak. To keep the gum in place, you’d tie it with a piece of rag. This quick fix would do the trick so you could drive to safety without your engine overheating, & get you to a service station to have the leaky hose replaced.

There used to be a television series entitled “MacGyver.” The main character is an extremely creative and crafty guy. Whenever he finds himself in a tight squeeze, he tries to find a way out of it using whatever materials are available around him.

You get to be the MacGyver of your own life. In the circumstances you’re currently facing, how can you use your creativity to see them differently? How can you rearrange your resources to improve your life today?

Inventions are products of creative minds. The field of science is invention itself. Without creative minds, science would have been a forlorn field of knowledge.

Creativity is a never-ending learning process. When you keep yourself open to the prospect of learning, you gain untold benefits, information, & opportunities that you can use to transform your life conditions.

Being creative requires you to think out-of-the-box, stretching your mind beyond common approaches & solutions. You can never be sure of your ideas until you try them. As long as the reward outweighs the risk, it’s always worth a try. Take a chance on yourself & see what happens!

Remember, the goal of all creative innovation is to improve current conditions. When applying your own creativity, make your ultimate intention to achieve good for not only yourself, but for all you touch. When you become a more positive, creative person, everyone you come in contact with is affected by the change in you. Because you are more open, so are the people you meet.

Think of the Domino effect. One small change – the commitment to living creatively, could be the domino that moves everything in your life in a more abundant direction.

Erich Fromm spelled it out clearly: “The conditions for creativity are: to be puzzled, to concentrate, to accept conflict and tension, to be born everyday, and to feel a sense of self.”

The conditions are there…will you embrace your creativity?
